Business & IT

Welcome to Business & IT Studies

The Business and Information Technology Department aims to deliver a curriculum to our students that is not only relevant but will also provide a strong foundation for their future, whether it be tertiary studies, employment or simply as an area of personal interest.

The courses offered in Upper School are extremely diversified. They include not only information technology based courses, which in today’s world is an essential skill, but also Accounting and Finance and Business Management and Enterprise.

Our Lower School courses are aligned to these and inclue many diversified IT courses such as Digital Media, Game Design and Robotics. The Robotics course has been developed to offer the students coding skills employing equipment such as Spheros, Lego Mindstorms, Makey Makey’s, Arduino’s and 3D printing. In the Law and Commerce area we offer the Law and Criminal Investigations course.

Nationally accredited courses such as Certificate III in Information Technology are also included. The Year 11s can also choose an Applied Information Technology course which offers a rich curriculum in computer hardware, design elements and principles, coding, website development and general software skills. This will lead into the course offered in Year 12.

The staff in this department have desgined a curriculum program that best suits the needs of our students from year to year and to encourage students to avail themselves to as many opportunities as possible, inside the classroom and beyond. We offer a broad range of extra-curricular activities that enhance our students’ education. These activities range from participation in: Mock Trial Competitions, The Curtin University Excelerate Program in Accounting, excursions and also running various small businesses for our school community. Participation in such activities have led to much success for our students including achieving university scholarships and prizes, Accounting traineeships, recognition of outstanding achievement in informatics competitions and, on many occasions, being finalists in State Mock Trial Competition.
